Liquid facelift

What does this term mean?

Definitie

A Liquid facelift is a non-surgical treatment method that uses injectables such as fillers and botox to achieve a more youthful appearance. This treatment offers a less invasive way to counter the signs of ageing without any cutting or scarring.

By strategically adding volume and softening wrinkles, a liquid facelift can offer a fresh and natural result. It is a popular choice for people who want to address ageing but are not ready for the recovery time and surgery of a traditional facelift.

Uitgebreide uitleg

What is a liquid facelift?

A liquid facelift is a combination of injectables, such as dermal fillers and botox, used to lift the face, improve contours and reduce wrinkles. Unlike a surgical facelift, in which excess skin is removed and the underlying tissues are lifted, a liquid facelift restores volume in the face and relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles. Using hyaluronic acid fillers, lost volume can be restored, while botox helps smooth out wrinkles caused by muscle tension. This means the whole face can be treated with a relatively simple method, without the drawbacks of a full facelift and with minimal downtime.

This treatment can rejuvenate the whole face without cutting or a long recovery time. It offers immediate results and can be fully tailored to the specific needs of each patient, depending on which areas need the most attention.

Who is a liquid facelift suitable for?

The liquid facelift is suitable for people who want to address subtle signs of ageing without an operation. The procedure is ideal for people with:

  • Volume loss in the face, such as hollow cheeks or thin lips.
  • Fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes, mouth and forehead.
  • A slackened jawline that is starting to sag or is less defined.
  • People who do not want surgery, but still want to maintain a fresh, youthful appearance.

This treatment is popular with people between 30 and 60 years old, but can also be used preventively by younger patients who want to prevent premature ageing.

How does a liquid facelift work?

A liquid facelift combines two types of injectables: dermal fillers and botox. Fillers, such as hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite, are used to restore lost volume in the face and improve contours. This can be done, for example, in the cheeks, around the eyes or along the jawline to give the face a youthful fullness. Fillers also help fill deep wrinkles, such as the nose-to-mouth lines (nasolabial folds).

Botox or other neurotoxins are used to relax wrinkles caused by muscle tension, such as frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines. By relaxing the muscles that cause these wrinkles, the face gets a smoother and calmer appearance.

The injections are placed strategically to restore the natural contours of the face and lift it subtly, without pulling the skin tight as with a surgical facelift.

Benefits of a liquid facelift

A liquid facelift offers various benefits for people who want to rejuvenate their face without surgery:

  • Non-surgical: no cutting, scars or long recovery time. The procedure can be carried out within an hour, and patients can resume their normal activities the same day.
  • Immediate results: the results are visible straight after the treatment. Fillers provide an immediate improvement in volume, while botox starts to work within a few days.
  • Natural result: the injectables are applied in a tailored way to preserve the natural contours of the face. As a result, the face looks fresh and younger, without an ‘overdone’ effect.
  • Flexible and adaptable: the treatment can be adapted to the individual needs of the patient. This means that certain areas, such as the cheeks or jawline, can receive more attention based on personal ageing patterns.
  • Short recovery time: compared with a traditional facelift, the recovery time is minimal.
  • Patients can resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment.

Recovery after a liquid facelift

Recovery after a liquid facelift is usually very short. Most patients experience few or no side effects, apart from mild swelling, redness or bruising at the injection sites. These side effects usually disappear within a few days.

Most people can resume their daily activities the same day. However, it is important to avoid exposure to extreme heat or cold, strenuous physical activity and touching the treated area for a few days after the treatment.

The result of fillers is visible immediately, while the full effect of botox can take a few days to a week. The overall result can last from several months to a year, depending on the products used and the areas treated.

Difference between a liquid facelift and a surgical facelift

A liquid facelift and a surgical facelift have the same goal: rejuvenating the face. The biggest difference, however, lies in the approach and intensity of the treatment. A surgical facelift requires an operation in which skin and tissues are lifted, which means a longer recovery time and often more dramatic results. A liquid facelift, on the other hand, offers a non-surgical solution for mild to moderate ageing through the use of injectables.

A surgical facelift is more suitable for people with severe skin laxity, while a liquid facelift is ideal for people who want subtle, non-invasive rejuvenation. Another important difference is how long the results last: while a surgical facelift can give results that last up to 10 years, fillers and botox offer temporary results that last from several months to a year.
